Ty Jerome is scoring like a guy the Grizzlies should want to keep. He may also be scoring like a guy other teams will want to call about.
That’s the interesting part of his early-season surge in Memphis.
Marc Stein of The Stein Line suggests Jerome is likely to generate trade inquiries before the deadline, given the perception that the Grizzlies are building around their young trio of Cam Boozer, Zach Edey and Cedric Coward.
That’s an expectation of interest, not a report that Memphis is shopping Jerome. Still, his opening week has given opposing front offices plenty to notice.
Jerome scored 45 points in the opener, followed with 28 against the Warriors and added 31 against the Kings. That’s 104 points through three games, all Memphis victories.
Against Sacramento, he also went 14-of-14 from the foul line. So this hasn’t simply been a matter of getting hot from deep and hoping it lasts.

For Memphis, there’s a reasonable argument either way. Jerome can help the younger players by creating offense and keeping the team competitive. A strong market for his services could also give the Grizzlies an opportunity to add pieces for their future.
Of course, somebody calling doesn’t mean Memphis has to answer with a price.
Jerome is helping the Grizzlies win. Any team hoping to change his address will need to offer them a reason to give that up.
