While the Lakers’ announced that star big man Anthony Davis is out indefinitely, they could have a clearer picture fairly soon.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, sources said the pain in Davis’ foot has lessened over the past few days, and that Davis will therefore be reevaluated in a week or so.
For now, Wojnarowski added, the Lakers and Davis are hoping that surgery can be avoided.
Davis suffered the injury in a Dec. 16 win over the Nuggets, and was forced to exit the game. He appeared in just 40 games last season and just 36 the season before that.
Initial reports suggested he would miss at least a month this time, and given Wojnarowski’s report, that timeline seems to be fairly accurate. But for the struggling Lakers, the sooner Davis gets back the better, as their playoff hopes didn’t look too realistic with him.
He is averaging 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds in 25 appearances, shooting 59 percent from the field.
