The Mavericks were able to breath a sigh of relief after X-rays were taken on Luka Doncic‘s left ankle injury. Results were negative — or positive for the Mavs, as we relayed here.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Doncic is considered day-to-day after suffering the injury Thursday night, forcing the star guard to exit the win over the Suns. Doncic has a “mild sprain,” Wojnarowski reported.
Coach Jason Kidd revealed he didn’t think the injury was too serious after the game.
“He looked good, he looked fine,” coach Jason Kidd said, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN. “But we’ll see how he feels as we go forward.”
Backcourt-mate Spencer Dinwiddie added that Doncic seemed to be OK and isn’t likely to miss much time.
“I don’t know if he’ll be back next game, or if he’ll miss a couple or something like that,” Dinwiddie told reporters. “But it ain’t no cause for where we’re like, ‘Oh no, we’re about to go on a 10-game stretch without LD.’ He’s going to heal up nicely. He’s a young kid. Although he likes to think he’s old, he’s not.”
While Doncic appears to be headed back soon, Kidd said center Christian Wood is likely to be out another week with a fractured thumb, via Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News.
“I think it’s just week to week, just to see how the healing goes,” Kidd said. “It’s been a week now, so we’ll give you another update in a week just to see if there’s been any healing or improvement there.”
