Guard D’Angelo Russell is viewed as the most available member of the Timberwolves ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, several opposing executives told Hoops Wire.
And without a doubt, Russell’s name is beginning to churn on the rumor mill with just a couple of weeks left until the last day to make a deal.
Russell has been linked to several teams for a while now, and it’s been said recently that the Mavericks are among those interested.
Minnesota sportscaster Darren Wolfson of SKOR North shared a number of other items involving the Timberwolves, as you can hear on Mickey & Judd program.
- Along with Russell, the Timberwolves have been receiving “a bunch of calls” on center Naz Reid and forward Taurean Prince, per Wolfson.
- Reid has been drawing interest from the Clippers and Nuggets, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. But Wolfson shot down the Nuggets’ possible involvement, saying it’s been “crickets” on Reid out of Denver.
- The Clippers also may have been among the teams checking in on Prince, a source told Hoops Wire.
- Reid indicated he’s not letting the rumors impact his play. “Whatever happens is going to happen for the better,” Reid said, via Chris Hine of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “I just try to play basketball, focus my mind on basketball and not so much what’s going on outside of basketball.”

Russel has skills, but I think his days as a starting PG are over. His dependability / consistency fluctuates too much, and it often seems like decisions and mental stuff where you want to scream “get in the game” at your tv. The body language of his teammates re-iterates this emotion, and I think that team gets better by subtraction and maybe addition if they can make any modest trade. Get the ball in Edwards’ hands more. They could use a real point. Especially w Gobert out there.
