The Bucks and Raptors were working on a trade that would have sent point guard Fred VanVleet to Milwaukee ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
No deal was reached, though, and VanVleet will remain in Toronto for the rest of the year. His contract has a $22.8 million player option after the season. He is expected to become a free agent.
It has not been determined what the Bucks were offering. While they missed out on VanVleet, they did manage to acquire forward Jae Crowder in a multi-team trade with the Nets. Crowder should be available beginning early next week.
The Clippers were another team that was said to be in pursuit of VanVleet ahead of the deadline.
VanVleet, 28, is 6-foot-1 and is averaging 19.6 points and 6.1 assists in 47 games, shooting 40 percent from the field and 34 percent on 3-pointers. He went unselected in the 2016 NBA Draft and has spent all seven of his pro seasons in Toronto.
“In the last several days the Bucks actually pursued Fred VanVleet with the Raptors, I’m told.”
