The Spurs have signed center Gorgui Dieng, presumably for the remainder of the season, the team announced in a press release.
Dieng, 33, is 6-foot-10 and has been with the Spurs since the start of the year, though he was waived briefly in January as part of the Spurs’ trade with the Celtics for center/forward Noah Vonleh (also waived).
He then signed two consecutive 10-day deals with San Antonio, the latest of which expired Friday. Given his veteran leadership in practice and in the locker room, the Spurs opted to keep him around.
Dieng has appeared in 17 games this season, averaging 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds. He has also spent time with the Hawks, Grizzlies and Timberwolves since being selected with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
Dieng spent the first seven years of his career in Minnesota. As for San Antonio, the roster now stands at 17.
