The Spurs are finalizing a sign-and-trade arrangement that will send shootig guard DeMar DeRozan to the Bulls for forward Thaddeus Young, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.DeMar DeRozan” width=”300″ height=”169″>
The deal will also send a future first-round pick and two second-round picks back to the Spurs, Charania added.
DeRozan, who turns 32 later this month, averaged 21.6 points, 6.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 61 appearances with the Spurs last season.
He will become the latest addition to a suddenly experienced, talented and deep Chicago backcourt that also includes Zach LaVine, as well as newcomers Lonzo Ball and former NBA champion Alex Caruso.
The frontcourt still has center Nikola Vucevic, but is missing Young and Daniel Theis, who signed with Rockets. More pressing is forward Lauri Markkanen, a restricted free agent who remains without a new deal.
Young, 33, averaged an underrated 12.1 points and 6.2 rebounds in 68 games.
The Spurs are udergoing quite a facelift themselves after losing DeRozan, guard Patty Mills (Nets) and forward Rudy Gay (Jazz), and adding Young and small forward Doug McDermott (Pacers).
