Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell suffered a sprained right ankle in Thursday’s win over the Warriors, though it is not believed to be serious.
X-rays on the ankle came back negative and Russell will undergo further evaluation Friday, coach Darvin Ham said, via Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
Russell stepped on the foot of Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo when Russell stepped back to inbound the ball after a made basket, with DiVincenzo behind him, out of bounds. It happened late in the first quarter and Russell did not return.
“Wrong place, wrong time definitely,” Russell said, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “Pretty unlucky for me.”
Russell added that he’s “not worried” about the ankle.
The Lakers (28-32) acquired Russell from the Timberwolves in a three-way trade with the Jazz. New acquisition and shooting guard Malik Beasley led the way vs. Warriors with 25 points, displaying a knack for knocking down 3-pointers since the deal.
“The pieces we added for defense, for offense looks pretty good,” forward/center Anthony Davis said, via McMenamin. “I think we’re playing well. We’re clicking. … Hopefully D-Lo’s injury isn’t severe where he misses time. I think we got a complete team where we’re able to make a little run.”
Final: Lakers 124, Warriors 111
The Lakers are 3-1 with their new group. They improve to 28-32. This was a huge win coming out of the ASB. Malik Beasley had 25 points (seven 3s). LeBron had his lowest-scoring game (13 points) since Nov. 21, 2021.
