The 76ers have waived veteran forward Anthony Tolliver, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Tolliver, 36, is 6-foot-8 and signed a pair of 10-day deals with the 76ers late last season, before signing a standard deal in early April. As Charania noted, Friday marked the guarantee date on his contract, so the Sixers waived him to avoid paying it.
This, of course, is nothing new for Tolliver, a journeyman forward who has now spent time with 13 teams. He appeared in 11 games with Philadelphia and averaged 1.5 points.
“The move opens up a roster spot for Philadelphia, who now has 14 players officially under contract,” wrote JD Shaw of Hoops Rumors. “The team will also sign Grant Riller to a two-way contract and Haywood Highsmith to an Exhibit 10 deal, leaving one traditional spot, one two-way deal and three Exhibit 10 deals available going forward.”
Tolliver will now enter free agency, where he again could be an early or a midseason pickup for contending team in search of frontcourt experience.
