The Pistons are expected to try to improve quickly and try to make a run at the playoffs under new coach Monty Williams, and one way to do that is by adding veteran talent.
So it may not be a surprise if former Pistons forward Jerami Grant, currently of the Trail Blazers, is on their radar.
Grant was traded from the Pistons to the Blazers last July, and is now set to become an unrestricted free agent. Detroit has him on the radar, The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III said on the HoopsHype podcast.
“He’s got a great relationship with (Pistons GM) Troy Weaver and loves the city of Detroit,” Edwards told HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. “I believe they’ll have an idea if they can get him right now as we speak.”
Scotto noted that the Blazers would also like to re-sign Grant, who is valued by star guard Damian Lillard. But don’t count out Detroit, Edwards added.
“I know that they went into the offseason with the anticipation of trying to get him,” Edwards said. “Whether or not that happens is up to Jerami.”
Grant, 29, averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, shooting 48 percent from the field and 40 percent on 3-pointers, in 63 games with the Blazers this past season.
