The Hornets have now gotten an up-close look at G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson and Alabama forward Brandon Miller, both candidates for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Per Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo of ESPN, the Hornets liked what they saw from Henderson, who impressed in all the important areas — intensity, explosiveness, shot-making and conditioning.
Miller worked out for the Hornets on Wednesday, so it’s too soon to know how he fared, though the Hornets are said to be big on Miller, given that he fills a need. Charlotte has reportedly done its due diligence on Miller’s background and has no concerns in terms of making him the second selection.
Still, we don’t know which direction the Hornets will go, and most around the league feel as if we’ll have no idea until they make the actual pick.
“This year, the draft starts at (No. 2),” one league source said.
Along with that, the Hornets are taking calls on the pick, and for the right price, would be willing to move it, reports suggest. But a league source said they are seeking “the sun, moon, the stars and maybe some beachfront property” in exchange.
The Pelicans are trying to figure out a way to land Henderson, as we relayed here, and may be willing to include star forward Zion Williamson as part of a deal.
Big ESPN mock draft update with @DraftExpress arrives this morning, with tons of new intel on teams and prospects as June 22 nears:
