AKRON, Ohio — The Cavaliers have spoken to the Pacers about potentially acquiring Indiana’s No. 26 or No. 29 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, sources told Hoops Wire.
The Pacers own five picks overall and sources have said they do not intend to use all five and bring five rookies to training camp. They are even exploring trading the No. 7 pick, per reports, those conversations do not include Cleveland, sources said.
Along with Nos. 7, 26 and 29, the Pacers also own two second-rounders (No. 32 and 55).
The Cavs own just the No. 49 pick entering Thursday’s draft. But as Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com first reported, they are looking to move into the late-first round.
Indiana’s No. 26 pick was actually acquired from Cleveland as part of the Caris LeVert trade in February 2022.
Cavs president of basketball operations Koby Altman has gone on record saying the team enters the offseason in search of additional perimeter shooting.
It is believed the Cavs are also looking to add a backup big man and ballhandler ahead of next season.
The Nets, who own picks Nos. 21 and 22, are also said to be open to moving a first-rounder, as are the Jazz, who have the Nos. 9, 16 and 28 selections.
