The Pistons are targeting Nets small forward Cam Johnson ahead of free agency, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Granted, Johnson is a restricted free agent, meaning the Nets can match an offer from any team and keep him. By all accounts, that is what they intend to do.
After all, Johnson was among the haul the Nets received in return for sending Kevin Durant to the Suns at the February trade deadline. So Johnson is incredibly valued in Phoenix.
But he also seems to be incredibly valued in Detroit, which is looking to add veteran pieces and make a charge toward the playoffs under new coach Monty Williams. And let’s not forget, Williams’ was Johnson’s coach in Phoenix.
Along with the Pistons, the Rockets have been linked to Johnson. Several others should surface before the start of free agency at the end of the month as well.
But the Nets are expected to do everything they can (within reason) to keep Johnson. So if anyone else is to land him, it will likely take a large offer and sign-and-trade arrangement with the Nets.
