The Heat wanted to land star shooting guard Bradley Beal from the Wizards, and Beal was indeed interested in the Heat.
But that didn’t work out and he’s instead headed to the Suns as part of a multiplayer deal, as we relayed here.
As for the Heat’s offer, there wasn’t a big difference from what the Wizards are receiving from the Suns. In fact, you could make the case that Miami’s was even better.
Per David Aldridge and Josh Robbins of The Athletic, the Heat offered point guard Kyle Lowry, small forward Duncan Robinson, and several first-round picks for Beal. Why the Wizards instead went with the Suns is hard to know.
Though Beal himself may have had something to do with it since he had a no-trade clause in his contract. In order for him to be moved, he had to agree to the deal. So maybe he liked the idea of teaming up with Suns forward Kevin Durant and shooting guard Devin Booker more than he did with Heat wing Jimmy Butler.
Whatever the reason, Beal is on his way to Phoenix … and the defending Eastern Conference champion Heat will have to remain on the lookout for another star.
