It seems unlikely that Kyrie Irving would sign with the Suns, but per Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report/TNT, Irving will meet with the team.
How the Suns could afford Irving, or whether he would want to take a massive pay cut, are other matters entirely. Irving, of course, played alongside Kevin Durant with the Nets. The Suns already have three fairly ball-dominant players in Durant, Devin Booker and newcomer Bradley Beal.
So it’s also hard to envision where Irving would fit in a basketball sense. But hey, this is the NBA, and for better or worse, free agents and teams have become obsessed with talking to each other and making sure the news gets out.
Realistically, Irving is likely to return to the Mavs on a much larger deal than anyone else can (or may be willing to) pay him. But he clearly is going to play the game first, and quite honestly, nothing wrong with that.
Dallas is said to be building it’s offseason roster with the idea that Irving will in fact return. And the Suns are pretty much built, minus adding some players around the edges of the roster. Still, they apparently are making a pitch to Irving.
NBA star Kyrie Irving intends to meet with the Phoenix Suns when the free agency period begins on June 30, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport. https://t.co/9KOjnqMu0N
