Apparently, star guard Damian Lillard has not been satisfied with the Trail Blazers’ offseason moves.
Per Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report/TNT, Lillard has requested a trade. Lillard met with Blazers officials on Monday, presumably to discuss the future of the franchise. He indicated at that time that he wanted to stay — waiting to see what the Blazers did in free agency.
The Blazers intend to work to find a trade and honor Lillard’s request, per Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.
Lillard has primarily been linked to the Heat in recent weeks, and that’s expected to become a preferred destination. The Nets are also on his radar, per Haynes.
Lillard said in early June that his preference would be to stay in Portland. He reportedly indicated at the meeting earlier this week he was willing to wait and see what the Blazers did in free agency.
“I want to have an opportunity to win in Portland,” Lillard said at the time, via Showtime Sports and Clutch Points. “We got an opportunity, asset-wise, to build a team that can compete. If we can’t do that…then it’s a separate conversation we would have to have.”
