Free agent point guard Mike James is in advanced talks with French club AS Monaco, according to European website Home of Glory.
James, 31, is 6-foot-1 and officially parted ways with Russian club CSKA Moscow on Saturday, Dario Skerletic of Sportando reported.
So he is officially an NBA free agent after finishing last season as a reserve with the Nets. He was able to sign with the Nets despite having “contractual ties to CSKA through 2023,” noted Marc Stein of Substack.
James originally signed a three-year contract with CSKA prior to the 2019-20 season — but reached agreement that allowed him to become a free agent at the end of last year.
He subsequently signed a 10-day contract with the Nets in April, then a deal for the remainder of the season in May.
James averaged 7.7 points and 4.2 assists in 13 appearances with the Nets, who declined the qualifying offer on his contract at the end of the season. Now an unrestricted free agent, there have been reports he preferred to remain in the NBA.
But apparently, interest has been minimal.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that James recently worked out for the Lakers, but that was before LA signed Rajon Rondo.
