Free agent guard Dante Exum is nearing a deal to return to the Rockets, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Exum, 26, is 6-foot-6 and has appeared in just 30 games over the previous two seasons combined. That includes just six games last year. That said, he played for Australia and in the Olympics and appears to be ready for a full NBA training camp and preseason.
It has been one injury after another for Exum after he was selected by the Jazz with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2014 draft. He was part of the Cavaliers’ trade that sent guard Jordan Clarkson to the Jazz.
Exum carries career averages of 5.7 points, 2.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds. He averaged 9.0 points in Australia’s run to the bronze medal.
The Rockets currently have a full camp roster of 20, so in order for Exum to get a spot, they will have to make another roster move. Khyri Thomas, Daishen Nix, Tyler Bey and Armoni Brooks are all on non-guaranteed contracts.
