Steph Curry on Future: Don’t Want to be ’40-Plus Dude Holding on for Dear Life’

How long will Warriors star Stephen Curry continue to play?

That question was posed to him by former NBA guard Gilbert Arenas on Arenas’ podcast. Curry, 35, answered by suggesting it would be at least a few more seasons. And why not? He remained one of the league’s most dominant players last season.

But when it comes to a Tom Brady-like run and playing for another decade … well, it doesn’t sound like that’s in the cards for Curry. It’s more like that of LeBron James, who turns 39 in December.

“It’s somewhere in that range (of James), but I never imagined myself being the 40-plus dude trying to hold on for dear life”, Curry told Arenas, via RealGM. “But who knows what my body will look like or feel like at that point? I got three years left on my deal, including at least that, and then kind of figure it out from there.”

Curry has played for the Warriors since the day they selected him with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. In a day of star players bolting in free agency or demanding trades, Curry seems to take pride in the fact he’s always been with Golden State.

“I am blessed to know and hope that no matter how many years I do play, playing for one franchise and being a part of that group of the legends that have accomplished that feat and won at the highest level and all that. I don’t ever take that for granted either,” Curry said. “You got the (Kobe Bryant)’s, the (Magic Johnson)’s, (Dirk Nowitzki), Tim Duncan, those guys helped establish a culture, won, did it with a lot of different roster combinations and different parts in their career.”
