The Pelicans officially have signed forward Kaiser Gates to a two-way contract, per the NBA transactions log.
Gates, 26, is 6-foot-8 and signed with the Nets in September 2022 before being waived a few weeks later. He has also signed training camp deals with the Bulls and Celtics but has yet to appear in an NBA game.
A product of Xavier University (2015-18), Gates has spent the majority of his pro career in the G League. Last season, he averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in 26 games with the Long Island Nets.
He spent the 2021-22 season playing for Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel.
As written by our Brandon Santomauro: “Important to remember, for the start of the 2023-24 season, the Pelicans will be missing key wing player Trey Murphy III (14.5 ppg on 40.6% 3P), after he underwent successful surgery to repair a meniscus tear earlier this month. Hoping to fill a role, Gates is a skilled combo forward, who can shoot lights out from three and will look to contribute to a Pelicans team that is setting out to improve off their 42-40 record last season.”
New Orleans still has one two-way slot available heading into camp.
