Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson will miss at least two more weeks while he recovers from a broken foot, chief of basketball operations David Griffin told reporters.
It was revealed at the start of training camp that Williamson had offseason surgery on the foot. He will miss a minimum of the first week of games.
Williamson, 21, is 6-foot-7 averaged 27.0 points and 7.2 rebounds in 61 games last season, his second in the NBA.
The Pelicans are entering their first season under first-time head coach Willie Green after just one year under Stan Van Gundy.
New Orleans will have to try to replace Williamson by committee, with perhaps Brandon Ingram playing at the “four” spot on occasion.
