The Spurs have waived veteran forward Al-Farouq Aminu, the team announced in a press release.
San Antonio was one of two teams that needed to release someone to meet the NBA’s roster limit before Monday evening. The Hornets are the other.
But as Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors wrote, “The Spurs will be on the hook for Aminu’s $10,183,800 salary, which will remain on their cap for the 2021/22 season.”
Aminu, 31, is 6-foot-8 and has been a strong defender utility man throughout his career. He was acquired in an August trade with the Bulls and appeared in one preseason game with the Spurs.
He has also spent time with the Magic, Trail Blazers, Pelicans, Hornets, Mavericks and Clippers.
The Spurs still have a two-way contract slot available, but are full when it comes to standard deals.
