It’s been more of the same for the Mavericks. Namely, it’s been the Luka Doncic Show.
Doncic recorded the 58th triple-double of his career as the Mavs improved to 3-0 courtesy of a 125-110 road win over the Grizzlies, who dropped to 0-4.
For the record, Doncic erupted for 35 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists.
Yes, the Mavs are unbeaten. Given how the Doncic and Kyrie Irving experiment went nowhere to end last season, this has to be considered a pleasant surprise.
“It’s a great start,” Doncic told reporters. “We know we have a lot of games left, but it’s always (nice) to have a great start.”
Irving was actually a late scratch with a left foot injury, though it’s not believed to be serious. On the bright side, newcomer Derrick Jones Jr. came to life with 22 points.
Jones is a former Slam Dunk champion but has expanded his game with some outside shooting.
“We’re looking for him to be him,” coach Jason Kidd said of Jones. “He’s a pro. … He’s worked on his 3-pointer, and you could see that tonight.”
