Former Raptors point guard Shamorie Ponds was selected by the Delaware Blue Coats with the first overall pick in Saturday’s G League draft, which was still ongoing at the time of this post.
The Blue Coats are the 76ers’ affiliate.
Ponds, 23, is 6-foot-0 and went undrafted out of St. John’s in 2019. He spent his first NBA season on a two-way contract with Toronto, splitting his time between the Raptors and Raptors 905 of the G League.
He currently has four games of NBA experience, and spent last season playing in Bosnia.
Hoops Wire will post the G League draft in its entirely upon completion.
Ponds was one of 100-plus players who entered the pool of G League draft prospects. Those eligible include college players who went undrafted by the NBA, international prospects and players who were recently waived by NBA teams, as well as veteran free agents.
