If ever there’s an NBA team in Las Vegas, count Shaquille O’Neal as a man who would want to be among those involved, and perhaps with LeBron James.
That comes straight from O’Neal himself, via Arash Markazi of The Messenger.
“If there’s ever an NBA team that’s going to come here, I would definitely like to be involved,” he said. “With LeBron, without LeBron, I just want to be involved.”
Or maybe O’Neal could be a GM. Hey, you never know. His popularity has only increased since he retired, given his co-starring role on TNT’s award-winning Inside the NBA studio show.
As for whether there will actually be an expansion team in Las Vegas … well, it’s hard to tell.
Commissioner Adam Silver all but confirmed the league intends to expand after the next broadcast rights deal in 2025. Seattle and Las Vegas are the two cities leading in the rumor department, though Silver suggested the league could go outside the U.S. — with Mexico City, Montreal and Vancouver, Canada, among the possibilities.
But if Shaq is throwing his name around as someone who wants to be involved, the NBA certainly will have another reason to consider Las Vegas.
