Warriors Clear James Wiseman To Participate In Practice

The Warriors have cleared second-year center James Wiseman to participate fully in practice, the team announced in a release.

Wiseman underwent  surgery on April 15 to repair a right meniscal tear. His return to game action is still to be determined, the team said.

He suffered the injury April 10 vs. the Rockets, missing the final 19 games of the season. Before that, he averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 39 appearances.

Wiseman, 20, was the No. 2 overall draft pick out of Memphis in 2020. The Warriors have no need to rush him into a return, opined Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle.

“The Warriors have shown they’re good enough to let Wiseman develop his skills on a proper timetable,” Jenkins wrote. “It’s terribly fashionable to dwell upon his limitations during a truncated rookie season, but I’m thinking we’ll be pleasantly surprised when we rediscover what a special athlete he is.”

The Warriors recently exercised the third-year option on Wiseman’s contract.

They are off until Wednesday, when they host the Hornets to tip off a six-game homestand. Things are already going pretty well without Wiseman and Klay Thompson, as the Warriors are sporting a 5-1 record.
