It might be a while before the Golden State Warriors see forward Draymond Green in uniform again.
Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Green has begun counseling and is expected to miss at least three more weeks. Green was suspended indefinitely by the NBA last week after waving his hand backward and connecting with Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face, sending Nurkic to the floor in pain.
Green apologized afterward, calling it an accident.
That marked Green’s second suspension of the early season — the first being when he grabbed Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert and put him in a chokehold during an on-court fracas between the teams.
“We need him,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters of Green at the time. “We need Draymond. But he knows that, we’ve talked to him. He’s got to find a way to keep his poise and be out there for his teammates… if we’re gonna be a really good team, we need him.”
Three weeks means Green would be out until the middle of January. He is meeting with representatives from the Warriors, as well as the league office, during his suspension, Charania noted.
“People around Green and the organization said the four-time NBA champion has been understanding and prepared to undergo the process required to return to the team in a full capacity,” Charania wrote. “Those sources would not reveal the specifics of Green’s counseling out of respect for his privacy.”
