The Pistons traded forward/center Marvin Bagley III and forward Isaiah Livers to the Wizards for big men Danilo Gallinari and Mike Muscala, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Washington also received two second-rounders in the deal.
Bagley, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has not lived up to the hype. For the Pistons, moving him means moving his $12.5 million salary, and that’s a bonus. That’s probably why the Pistons threw in the two seconds (2025 and ’26, per Woj).
Gallinari ($6.8 million), Muscala ($3.5 million) and Livers ($1.8 million) are all on expiring contracts, a valuable trade tool in today’s NBA. So all stand a chance to be moved again.
There are probably more deals on the way for both teams before the Feb. 8 trade deadline. They’re both at the bottom of the standings and expected to reshape the rosters.
