The NBA and players’ union have agreed on and finalized plans for a two-day draft for this year and beyond, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. 
This has been in the works for some time and was initially relayed by commissioner Adam Silver back in November. The new agreement will mean the first round is held on a Thursday, with the second set for the following day.
The NBA Draft has always been held on the same day, dating back to the days when it consisted of 10 rounds. Why the league wants to change it now is anyone’s guess.
One reason could be to give teams more than the rushed window of two minutes to make a second-round selection. It will likely increase that second-round-make-a-pick window to five minutes, the same as the first round, league sources told Hoops Wire. There are no plans to offer more time between first-round picks, sources said.
General managers would also like more time to contemplate trades, and few things in the NBA are on the move more than second-round picks.
