Sixers feeling good about chances to sign Kyle Lowry

While there’s been mention of other teams, it’s the Philadelphia 76ers who believe they have a good shot at landing veteran point guard Kyle Lowry.

Lowry remains with the Charlotte Hornets following a trade with the Miami Heat. He’s expected to agree to a contract buyout and enter free agency. He’s from Philadelphia.

“The Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers had been mentioned as possible buyout-market destinations for Lowry. However, the Sixers feel good about bringing him home, according to sources,” wrote Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Sixers acquired shooting guard Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers at the trade deadline — and sent Patrick Beverley to the Milwaukee Bucks. The latter may have opened the door for them to sign Lowry, and was likely made with the idea that they could do exactly that.

Of course, their biggest issue is trying to fill in for injured star center Joel Embiid, out for at least another month or so following knee surgery.

Lowry, 37, is averaging 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.1 steals, shooting 43 percent from the field and 39 percent on 3-pointers. He has yet to appear in a game for Charlotte.
