NBA general managers have plenty of reasons to want their own association, and as we relayed earlier, it appears they will have one soon.
This is something ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reiterated during an appearance on SportsCenter on Thursday.
“General managers have been talking about this formally really since March. The coaches have an association, the trainers have an association,” Wojnarowski said.
“General managers want to put in place some framework where there peers can get some support if they get into difficult situations — whether it’s legal references, PR professionals, even a legal defense fund.”
While GMs have been talking about the idea for a while, the ongoing investigation into Trail Blazers executive Neil Olshey has seemingly given them a sense of urgency.
“This is something all 30 GMs and other members of the front office have been discussing. They’ve got an LLC together and they’ve told the league they’re headed toward (an association),” Wojnarowski said. “It’s something you’re going to see finalized in the fairly near future.”
