Spurs Held Players-Only Meeting Following Latest Loss

The Spurs held a players-only meeting following a 25-point loss to the Timberwolves last Thursday, forward Thaddeus Young said, via Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News.Thaddeus Young

“We took that butt whooping and we went back into the locker room and we talked for 20, 30 minutes, the whole team,” Young said, via Orsborn. “Everyone voiced their issues and their points.”

The Spurs (4-11) enter Monday’s game against the Suns as losers of four straight. They have not played since the loss, and the players meeting that followed.

Young said some of the mistakes, and losses, have been self-inflicted.

“We are kicking ourselves in the butt by having mental lapses or having a bad quarter, those types of things,” he said, via Orsborn. “Having misreads on the defensive side of the basketball. Missed opportunities on plays coming out of timeouts.”

Coach Gregg Popovich recently said he continues to believe in his team.

“They are growing, doing little things better all the time,” Popovich told the media. “Frustrating to lose, but when a team is working that hard and willing to learn, it’s enjoyable as hell, even in a loss.

“I’m proud of the way they are competing. Now we just have to make fewer mistakes and have a couple of guys play better.”
