For Donovan Mitchell and the Cavaliers, the hits just keep on coming.
Michell is already missing time with a bone bruise in his knee, but is being held out for at least a week with a nasal fracture as well.
Mitchell missed seven straight games because of the knee, came back for two, then missed Monday’s road win over Indiana. The idea was for him to get the knee right, continue to rest it for a few more games and get ready for the playoffs.
Now, he has an extra unfortunate reason to let it heal.
Mitchell likely suffered the nasal injury when Tristan Thompson accidentally hit his face while going for a rebound in Saturday’s loss to the Houston Rockets.
On the bright side, neither injury is considered all that serious.
But Mitchell will miss at least Wednesday’s home game vs. the Miami Heat, Friday’s road game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Sunday’s road game against the Heat, and Monday’s home game vs. the Charlotte Hornets.
He may have missed most of those anyway because of the knee.
Mitchell is averaging a team-best 27.4 points in his second full season with the team. Cleveland (43-25) sits in second place in the Central Division and third in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs have won two of three.
