Sixers To Sign Tyler Johnson To 10-Day Deal

The 76ers plan to sign guard Tyler Johnson to a 10-day contract via the hardship exemption, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Johnson, 29, is 6-foot-3 and appeared in 29 games with the Nets last season, averaging 5.4 points and 2.0 rebounds. He has also spent time with the Suns and the Heat since entering the NBA in 2014.

He has appeared in 348 games overall but went unsigned after his deal expired at the end of 2020-21.

“Johnson’s 10-day contract will pay him $128,709, but it won’t count against the Sixers’ team salary for cap or tax purposes,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.

The 76ers currently have three players in the league’s health and safety protocol — guard Shake Milton, center Andre Drummond and power forward Georges Niang.

They of course are also still missing guard/forward Ben Simmons, who has been holding out and is the subject of multiple trade rumors. The goal is that the experienced Johnson will be able to provide some relief in the backcourt.
