The Pistons intend to sign power forward Cheick Diallo to a 10-day contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Diallo, 25, is 6-foot-8 and has been playing for the Motor City Cruise of the G League, Detroit’s minor league affiliate. He is averaging 14.2 points and 8.5 rebounds, shooting a sizzling 71 percent from the field, for the Cruise.
He last appeared in the NBA in 2019, appearing in 47 games with the Pelicans. The No. 33 overall pick in the 2016 draft, he has also spent time with the Pelicans. Last year, Diallo played in Russia and Spain.
A native of Mali, he moved to the U.S. in 2012 to pursue a basketball career. “It was so tough,” he said. “I left my parents, my friends, my brothers, everything, just to come here.”
The Pistons do not currently have any players in the health and safety protocol, a major rarity among NBA teams these days.
