Pacers Sign Keifer Sykes, Waive Brad Wanamaker

The Pacers have signed point guard Keifer Sykes and waived guard Brad Wanamaker, the team announced in a press release.Keifer Sykes

Sykes, 27, is 5-foot-11 and has been playing for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the G League. He started his career with the G League’s Austin Spurs in 2015, but has been playing mostly internationally since.

He signed with the Pacers on Aug. 5, but was waived at the end of training camp. He averaged 14.4 points last season with the SE Melbourne Phoenix of the Australian NBL.

Wanamaker, 32, is 6-3 and appeared in 22 games with the Pacers this season, averaging 3.5 points and 2.2 assists.

“Most of the deals being completed around the NBA right now are 10-day hardship contracts, but it doesn’t appear that’ll be the case here, since the Pacers don’t have any players in the health and safety protocols and will be waiving a player from their 15-man roster in order to sign Sykes,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.

Sykes will battle for the role of third point guard.

“Despite missing time due to an ankle injury and underwhelming while committing several errors during the team’s preseason finale, the small but mighty guard played a valuable role for the Pacers in Las Vegas, allowing Chris Duarte to play on ball as well as off,” wrote C. Cooper of SB Nation.
