Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sends Warriors’ Stephen Curry To Lakers

NBA legends LeBron James and Stephen Curry were an electric duo for Team USA during the Paris Olympics, so much so that many people believe the two future Hall of Famers should team up.

NBA analyst Stephen Noh of The Sporting News proposed a mock trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors that sees the Lakers trade five players and two draft picks to the Warriors for Curry.

Lakers receive: Stephen Curry

Warriors receive: D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Dalton Knecht, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2031 first-round pick

“This is the most plausible version of a Curry-to-Lakers trade, but several roadblocks would make it unlikely,” Noh wrote. “First, the Lakers would be trading away pretty much all of their depth pieces. They would only have veteran minimum contracts available to fill multiple roster spots, and most decent players are already signed at this point of the summer. They would have a ton of top-end talent, but they would be mortgaging their future for a team that might not even be good enough to go deep in the playoffs.

“Second, would the Warriors even do this? This would signal a total rebuild for them, and this package honestly still isn’t worthy of a player like Curry. Those two Laker picks would likely be good and Reaves is a nice prospect. The Warriors might be able to flip Russell and Hachimura for more picks. Knecht was a strong value pick for the Lakers in this draft at No. 17. But if Golden State opened up the bidding on Curry, it could get a better offer from some other team.”

Curry would have to request a trade from the Warriors to get to the Lakers since Golden State won’t trade the greatest shooter in NBA history unless he asks to be moved.

A four-time NBA champion, Curry will make $55.7 million next season.

LeBron, the oldest player in the NBA, has a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can control his future.

Curry averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists last season, while LeBron put up 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game.

The Lakers would be title contenders with Curry, LeBron and Anthony Davis leading the way. However, the odds of Curry landing in Los Angeles are very, very low.
