Warriors Signing Blake Hinson To Camp Deal

The Warriors intend to sign rookie guard/forward Blake Hinson to an Exhibit 10 contract for training camp, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.Blake Hinson, Lakers, NBA

Hinson was waived by the Lakers earlier this week.

That move was made to allow LA to sign center Christian Koloko to a two-way deal. Los Angeles already had three two-way players — the league limit — so had to release someone to bring in Koloko. (Undrafted rookie forward Armel Traore and center Colin Castleton are the Lakers’ other two-way players.)

But the Lakers were impressed with Hinson after he put together a nice showing in the NBA summer league and “chose the Warriors over several teams,” per Scotto.

Hinson, 24, is 6-foot-8 and went undrafted this past summer, signing a two-way deal with LA in July. He spent two seasons at Pittsburgh after a two-year run at Mississippi State.

Granted, he’ll have a bit of an uphill climb to make the Warriors’ final roster, given that all three of their two-way spots are filled, and second-round pick Quinten Post is likely to land a deal of his own.

No matter, Hinson will get an opportunity to compete for a job, and at the very least, should end up with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the G League.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
