Nets To Waive Patrick Gardner

The Nets intend to waive center Patrick Gardner, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post.Patrick Gardner, Nets, NBA

Garnder, 25, is 6-foot-11 and has spent time with the Long Island Nets of the G League, He’s likely headed back there, Lewis noted. He was originally signed to an Exhibit 10 contract.

He signed the same type of deal last year out of Marist, but was waived before the season. Last season with Long Island, Gardner averaged 7.7 points and 5.1 rebounds in 28 total games.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.

The Nets finished 32-50 last season, missing the playoffs. They’ve undergone quite a facelift this offseason, hiring first-time NBA head coach Jordi Fernandez and trading standout forward Mikal Bridges to the Knicks. More changes could still be on the way.

For Brooklyn, it basically appears to be a rebuilding year with an eye on first-round draft picks.
