When you go 12-0, as the Cavaliers have done, the reasons are many. As coach Kenny Atkinson and the entire team will tell you, it’s never just one guy.
But if you did have to pick a guy, it just might be Darius Garland. I discussed that and a whole lot more in my latest spot with Andy Baskin and Jeff Phelps on 92.3 The Fan. Listen here or in the player directly below.

For those who don’t want to listen to the whole interview, here’s the gist:
With the Cavs riding an undefeated record, Amico pointed out that head coach Kenny Atkinson has made an immediate impact, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. “Atkinson has really tapped into the Cavs’ offensive potential,” Amico noted. “We’re seeing a team that’s playing faster, with more purpose, and that’s maximizing the talents of its core group.”
A big part of that success has been Darius Garland, who Amico described as “the engine for the Cavs.” Garland’s ability to orchestrate the offense, push the tempo, and find teammates in rhythm has been pivotal. “He’s setting the tone night in and night out. When Garland’s clicking, the Cavs are tough to stop,” Amico said.
Despite the early success, Amico touched on what Cleveland might need to address as the postseason approaches. “Depth is going to be key,” he explained.
The Cavs are just the eighth team in NBA history to start 12-0. All the others at least reached the conference finals. The most recent, beyond the Cavs, was the 2016 Golden State Warriors squad that lost to Cleveland in the NBA Finals. So the Cavs have a connection even there, too.
