Lakers Continue To Be Linked To Jonas Valanciunas, As Wizards Field Offers

The Lakers continue to keep their eyes peeled on the trade market, and their focus appears to remain on adding size in the frontcourt. Per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Lakers are actively exploring options for a center, with Jonas Valanciunas being a name that keeps surfacing in discussions.Jonas Valanciunas, Wizards, Lakers, NBA

Valanciunas, a 6-foot-11 big man currently with the Washington Wizards, has long been admired for his ability to dominate the paint, rebound at a high level, and provide a reliable scoring option on the interior.

His skill set could certainly complement the Lakers’ lineup, which has relied heavily on Anthony Davis at the five. Adding someone like Valanciunas would allow Davis to slide back to his preferred power forward position more often.

Meanwhile, Fischer also points out that the Wizards are openly fielding offers. The Wizards are clearly in rebuilding mode, and their willingness to move pieces could align with the Lakers’ pursuit of win-now talent.

It’s no secret that the Lakers are looking for reinforcements as they navigate the highly competitive Western Conference. While they’ve been solid out of the gate, their lack of depth in the middle has been exposed at times.

Valanciunas would not only provide much-needed depth but could also take pressure off the likes of LeBron James and Davis to anchor the interior night in and night out.

For now, it’s all speculation, but with the Lakers reportedly doing their homework, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them pull the trigger on a move sooner rather than later. The question is whether the right fit becomes available at the right price.
