Pelicans’ Dejounte Murray Eyes Return Against Raptors After Hand Injury

New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray has been sidelined since just after opening night with a fractured left hand, a blow that disrupted what many hoped would be a breakout season for him in the Big Easy.Dejounte Murray, NBA, Pelicans

But the wait for his return might finally be over.

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Murray is targeting a Wednesday night return when the Pelicans host the Toronto Raptors. While the team has not officially confirmed his availability, the report suggests Murray is feeling confident about his progress and “intends” to be on the court for the midweek matchup.

The Pelicans have sorely missed Murray’s presence in the backcourt. After arriving in New Orleans during a high-profile offseason trade, the former All-Star was expected to bring dynamic playmaking, perimeter defense, and a steadying influence to a roster built around Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Instead, the team has suffered through a massive rash of injuries, resulting in a slow and rocky start to the season.

Murray’s return couldn’t come at a better time. The Pelicans (4-13) need something, anything to start feeling good again. With his ability to push the pace, create for teammates, and lock down opposing guards, Murray’s skill set fits perfectly alongside what was supposed to be a high-powered offense.

If Murray is indeed cleared to play Wednesday, expect an electric atmosphere in New Orleans as the Pelicans look to find something resembling a spark. Is it too little, too late? Yeah, we’ll probably find out here soon. On the bright side for New Orleans, there are still 65 games to go.
