Warriors Set To Acquire Dennis Schroder In Trade With Nets

The Golden State Warriors are on the verge of making a move to bolster their backcourt, as they engage in “serious” trade discussions with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire veteran point guard Dennis Schröder, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.NBA, Nets, Dennis Schroder, Warriors

Sources indicate the deal is close to being finalized, with Golden State set to send De’Anthony Melton and draft compensation to Brooklyn in exchange for Schröder. The trade is expected to be completed on Sunday when Melton becomes trade-eligible, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

League insiders have described the deal as “imminent,” signaling that the Warriors are making their final push to add a steady, experienced playmaker to their roster.

The Warriors’ trade offer will include second-round draft picks, though the exact selections are still being finalized. No first-round picks are involved in the deal. Schröder, who is in the final year of his contract, has proven to be a capable point guard, and his leadership and experience could provide an immediate impact for Golden State as they look to stay competitive in the West.

Both Melton and Schröder are on expiring contracts, set to hit free agency in 2025, which gives both teams the flexibility to retool for the future while making a move for the present.

While reports suggest that Brooklyn forward Cam Johnson was discussed as part of the trade talks, it appears that he will not be included in the deal.

With Melton earning $12.8 million this season and Schröder at $13 million, both players are relatively close in value, making the trade a straightforward swap in terms of salary.

The Warriors clearly see Schröder as a valuable asset to add to their championship-contending roster, and this trade could be the piece they need to push them over the top.
