The Cavaliers have had a nice break and enter Monday’s road game against the Nets with the NBA’s best record (21-4). That’s all well and good.
But things will get a little more difficult — in theory, anyway — with the first West Coast swing of the season approaching at the end of the month. I discuss that and a whole lot more on the latest Hoops Wire Live from 330 to Go. Watch here or directly below.
Of course, before we get to the end of the month, we should discuss the here and now. After the Nets, the Cavaliers get another three-day break. So this has been like the NBA’s “bye week.” At least it has been for Cleveland and a few others.
And it’s been more than just a bye week. It’s been like two weeks. Since playing the Heat on Dec. 8, the Cavs will have had just two games. They beat the Washington Wizards on Friday. They visit the Nets on Monday. And this type of stretch of so few games in so many days is a first in franchise history.
But all that matters is they continue to take care of business against the teams they’re supposed to beat. If they do that, they will indeed keep the NBA’s best record from now through the end of the regular season in mid-April. I promise.
Either way, you can’t complain about what new coach Kenny Atkinson has brought to what we all called “the same old roster” this past offseason. While almost everyone is back for the Cavs, and no one has really been added, they feel like an entirely new team.
Keep that up, and no matter the schedule, these Cavaliers will be just fine, thank you very much. Anyway, check out all of my thoughts in the latest Hoops Wire Live.
