The Warriors have assigned second-year center James Wiseman to the G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors, the team announced in a press release.
This is Wiseman’s third assignment to Santa Cruz, so it’s hard to know if he is closing in on a season debut. But it’s generally a positive sign.
All the Warriors revealed was that Wiseman will be practicing with their G League affiliate on Friday. He underwent successful surgery to repair a right meniscal tear on April 15 and has yet to play this season.
Wiseman, 20, was the No. 2 overall draft pick out of Memphis in 2020. The Warriors exercised the third-year option on his contract before the season.
He missed the final 19 games of 2020-21. Before that, he averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 39 appearances.
