Nets newcomer Ben Simmons is doing some light court work as he makes an effort toward his season debut, coach Steve Nash said, via Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
“Next he has to go full speed 1-on-0, then 1-on-1 and so forth,” Lewis relayed.
Nets GM Sean Marks recently indicated that Simmons has had a back issue that’s kept him out since being acquired in the James Harden trade with the 76ers. He has yet to appear in a game this season, but that could soon change.
“He’s had back issues at times,” Nash said on Saturday, via Lewis. “So I don’t want to say he’s got a bad back. I don’t know if that’s fair. I think he’s had a flare up.”
Recent reports suggested Simmons could debut as soon as Sunday, giving him 14 games to get acclimated with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and the rest of his teammates. But from the sounds of things, that date seems a bit soon.
