Knicks point guard Kemba Walker has been working out in Charlotte and a return to the Hornets could be in the cards, per Marc Berman of the New York Post.
The Knicks and Walker reached agreement that Walker would sit out the rest of the season, though it is not believed a buyout of his contract is forthcoming.
“There are a number of teams who would love to have Kemba Walker in a buyout,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on NBA Today, via Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “That’s not gonna happen. He’s not interested in that with New York.”
He spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Hornets and remains a fan favorite in Charlotte. He signed a two-year deal with the Knicks worth $18 million before the season.
“Walker, 31, can still help a team as a bench player, as he averaged 11.3 points in 37 games and shot 36.7 percent from 3,” Berman wrote.
Coach Tom Thibodeau said Walker has not been working out with the Knicks.
“No, he’s away from the team. That’s the way it is. He’s rehabbing, taking care of what he has to take care of. … And that was agreed upon. Our management, his agent and Kemba, we just felt that was the best way to handle it.”
With the likes of LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier and others, it’s hard to say if the Hornets would have an interest in bringing back Walker.
