The Cavaliers vs. the Celtics. Friday night. In Boston. What does it mean? Some people will tell you everything. Some will say not a whole lot.
I’m probably somewhere in between. I discussed all that and a whole lot more on the latest Hoops Wire Live from 330 to Go. Watch it here or directly below.
As I said on the show, the game is just a regular-season matchup. The Cavs (48-10) have won eight in a row. They are 6-0 with De’Andre Hunter on the team. They’re fully healthy.
So yeah, it’d be nice if they got a victory. Just to show the Celtics what they’re capable of. But does it matter when it comes to potentially facing the Celtics in the playoffs?
Well, no. Not really.
Both teams will have a little more than 20 games to go before the playoffs. Each will be playing someone different in the first round, and likely the second round, if they get that far.
But one thing NBA players are aware of and even care about is the narrative. Whoever wins this game — fair or not — will be viewed as the favorites in the Eastern Conference for the rest of the season. At least, until they potentially meet again.
That won’t really be the case. The playoffs are a different beast. But that will be the theory. And many in the national media will state it as fact. That’s just the media world in which we live.
So, yeah. For that reason, it’d be nice for the Cavs to get a win. Plus, they really, really want to win.
Anyway, check out the show for my full thoughts on this and a few other Cavaliers topics.
