LeBron James Becomes First Player In NBA History To Score 50K Points: ‘It’s Pretty Special’

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to score 50,000 points on Tuesday (3/4) against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 50,000 points is combining LeBron’s regular season and postseason totals.

“It’s a hell of a lot of points and I’m super blessed to be able to put that many points up in the best league in the world with the best players in the world over my career,” LeBron said. “It’s pretty special.”

LeBron became the leading scorer in NBA history in 2022-23. Despite being the oldest player in the league (40), the Akron native is still putting up elite numbers this season. He’s averaging 24.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists.

“Just not falling out of love with the process,” LeBron said. “Continuing to fall in love with the process, that’s the hardest thing, every single year. You know it’s going to be a long season. It’s 82 games, 41 of them are on the road. It’s a lot of travel. And as you get older, it affects you even differently. If you have a family, it affects you even differently. So the process. Trying not to fall out of love with the process is the hardest thing.”

The Lakers have the second-best record in the West at 39-21. They look like legitimate title contenders with LeBron and Luka Doncic leading the way.

“It’s amazing,” Doncic said of LeBron. “Watching him do this stuff at this age, it’s just unbelievable. Like, 50K points, I can’t even explain how insane that is. He might get to 70K, you never know.”

LeBron is a four-time MVP, a four-time champion and a four-time Finals MVP. He’s the only player in NBA history to rank top five all-time in points and assists, the only player to win three Finals MVPs with three different teams and the only player with 40,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 career assists.
