Despite some rumors to the contrary, veteran point guard Isaiah Thomas is not signing with CSKA Moscow and will instead continue to look for a place to play in the NBA, agent Bernie Lee said.
“So we are crystal clear on this. Isaiah Thomas is not going to CSKA,” Lee tweeted. “CSKA is an outstanding organization but Isaiah’s goal is and will remain a return of permanence to the NBA and it’s a goal he will achieve.”
Thomas, 32, is 5-fooot-9 and appeared in just three games last season, all with the Pelicans. He spent 2019-20 with the Wizards, his best recent season, averaging 12.2 points and 3.7 assists.
He recently worked out with members of the Lakers, including LeBron James and Russell Westbrook, though that was before LA brought back point guard Rajon Rondo.
Thomas has also worked out with the Mavericks, per reports, and continues to be liked to the Celtics. He averaged an Eastern Conference-leading 28.9 points with Boston during the 20187-18 season before suffering a major hip injury in the playoffs.
He has since played for the Cavaliers, Pelicans, Wizards, Lakers and Nuggets. He is currently an unrestricted free agent.
